Paul Harrie


Paul Harrie was born in Grand Forks, North Dakota in 1951. He was drawn to glass art in the mid 1970ís and elected to pursue a formal education in glass. He received his B.F.A. in 1976 from the University of Kansas and his M.F.A. from UCLA in 1980. He has taught the art of making glass in several institutions as follows: 1981-1983 Glass Instructor, Cal State University Long Beach 1981-1982 Glass Instructor, clay/glass workshop, Cal State University, Long Beach 1980 Glass Instructor, Cal State University Northridge 1978-1979 Assistant Instructor, UCLA Harrie has participated in nearly 20 public and private exhibitions throughout the country as well as Japan. His work was selected for publication in the Corning Museum of Glassí New Glass Review 2. He has had his own glassblowing studio since 1980. His pieces are handblown, then cut and polished. His abstract shaped vessels are a nice complement to the intricate faceted paper weights and perfume bottles he is known for. He enjoys making glass art pieces that gives the impression of opening up and peering into ice or looking into a geode
