Christopher Morrison

One of the early entrants into the Pacific Northwest glass scene, Christopher Morrison first studied at the Pilchuck Glass School in Stanwood, Washington in 1983 where he studied with Bertil Vallien. He went on to further his studies once he sensed that glassblowing was his "calling". He went on to receive his B.A. in Art from Hartwick College in 1984. Morrison then returned to the Pilchuck Glass School in 1985 to study with Jon Eric Ritzman and Amy Roberts and again in 1990 when he studied with Robert Carlson. After completing his formal education Morrison worked at several notable glass blowing facilities including Philabaum Glass Studios as a gaffer and hot shop assistant and Chihuly Inc. in Seattle, Washington as a cold shop technician and hot shop assistant.. In total, Morrison worked for 5 notable glass studios between 1985 and 1991. As you will no doubt see in his work, he was profoundly influenced by Dale Chihuly in the intertwining of free form glass pieces as part of one composition in his future work. Morrison has shown his work in many selected exhibitions including the Berkshire Center for Contemporary Art and the Whatcom Museum. He has also taught the art of handblowing glass at Pratt Fine Arts Center in Seattle, Washington and developed the teaching program at the Seattle Glassblowing Studio. Morrison’s art often times reflects his love for the rainforest. His "Heliconia" series was inspired by his trip to a Costa Rican rainforest.
